So… last week I had one of my clients question me when I spoke about my coach. She said, “I haven’t ever considered that you would have a coach too!”

As a personal trainer, you spend most of your week helping others to achieve their goals and implement good healthy habits. However, for me to be good for my clients it is highly important that I also have goals and aspirations. It has and does make me a better trainer.

To do this I make sure that I have my coach to support me on my journey. To be fair I have multiple coaches throughout my week to impart their knowledge and experience to help me grow and develop. As you will know from my last post, I love education and the journey of learning new stuff.

Albert Einstein: “once you stop learning you start dying”

Each day you should make an hour for yourself to learn from another. If you don’t think you have an hour then please check your screen time on your phone and come back to me!

Reasons why I need a coach!…

  1. It makes me a better lifter

My programming inevitably will focus more on what I like to do and not my weak links. There’s always at least one or two exercises I don’t like and I don’t like it because I’m not good at it. A good coach will spot theses and get you to work on them.

Breaking it down until you get it right. Also when learning a new movement pattern to trying to correct an old one it is hard to see yourself mechanically. Having someone to watch the way you move and to keep you safe is very important (same as I do with my clients).

  2. It makes me a better trainer

I learn exercises and techniques I wouldn’t have otherwise come across. I get better, my clients get better, and the profession that I am within gets better. If nothing else, having a coach pulls me out of my comfort zone which gives me a sense of what my clients experience every time they train with me.
  3. It makes me healthier and safer

Having someone to keep an eye on me when I’m training means I don’t let my ego rule. With heavy lifting and complex movements, the ego is a danger zone. I have someone to pull me back when I still need to work on my technique and then push me forward when I’m ready!
