Summer is coming … are you ready ????

The days are getting warmer and it’s time to shed the layers, ditch the trackies and show a little bit more skin … ARE YOU READY???

If you’ve been consistent with your workouts, hitting the gym, doing your classes and keeping check of your nutrition, then more than likely you’re happy to see the warmer weather arrive. But some may be thinking that it is time to start knuckling down, start dialling in the nutrition and time to get a little serious.

The best advice I can give is … DON’T PANIC!!!

Endless hours of cardio and starving yourself on low calorie diets is a recipe for disaster. Yes it may reduce the number on the scale slightly but is it sustainable?? Is it healthy?

This approach tends towards a “more cardio-more restriction” mindset and is a pre requisite to an unhealthy relationship with both food and exercise.

So what should you do? … Be S.M.A.R.T


S-Schedule your workouts

Book your favourite classes, schedule your time in the gym, plan that walk / run with friends. Not motivated? Set your alarm and leave it with your gym clothes (in another room) or take your workout gear to work to ensure you keep your “workout appointment”.


M-Make your meals:

Meal “prep” has been in the bodybuilding world for decades and has definitely got some merit. Adding a few extra vegetables to the steamer or cutting additional salad at dinner meals is easily transferable to the lunch box.


A – Allow for inconsistency

Nobody is perfect. Inconsistency happens because, well, life happens. The idea is not to punish yourself, but to learn from slip ups and how you can better prepare yourself for similar future situations.


R-Resistance Train

Did you know that resistance training burns more calories after you’ve finished the workout than cardio??  More defined, sculpted muscles not only look good but are more metabolic meaning they burn calories at rest. T- Track your steps

A daily step challenge can certainly help to keep you accountable for movement throughout the day. Completing an extra 10,000 steps per day equates to 2000-3500 calories per week. Not bad!!
