Before you joined the Coffs Coast Health Club what was your exercise background?
I have now been training at Coffs Coast Health Club for around seven months, which has completely changed my outlook on good health. Before that, I played rugby league, swam competitively and raced surf boats until I was about 20. I played squash and cricket socially till 30. Then piled on the kilos and stopped exercising after that.
Why did you decide to change your lifestyle?
I have very high blood pressure, excessive weight, family concerns and then finally because I wanted to do fun things but couldn’t due to my size.
Has that lifestyle change assisted you in your day to day activities?
Absolutely! With my fitness goals, not only do I now do activities that I enjoy like going to the beach, swimming and jet skiing, but I feel calmer mentally.
What are your health and fitness goals?
I have lost about 20kg with 40kg to go. Once achieved, I shall purchase a Jet Ski that I will be fit enough to jump waves and enjoy the next few years before I’m too old to do youthful sport-like activities.
What goals have you set for the future?
Lose another 40kg, buy a jet ski and enjoy my life and those that share their lives with me.
What is the most useful advice you could share?
I think all people have their demons to fight and as humans, we seek pleasure. Without a level of personal health and fitness, it does not matter what successes one achieves. So my advice would be to take action to achieve your optimal health, set your fitness goals so you can do the things in life that bring you personal joy and contribution to those around you. There is no doubt that ‘health is your greatest wealth!’
